Hello World,
Happy December! You know I have been waiting for "blog" inspiration to strike and sadly it hasn't...until today. This are honestly a random 4:00am thoughts, but I was browsing through the thousands of pictures that I have posted on Facebook over the years and I am so amazed at how fast time flies. Not only does time fly, but the times change as well and fads literally come and go with the click of a button. Looking through these pictures I see clothes that I would not dear wear today, makeup that makes me want to go back in time and slap myself AND my friends for letting me wear it. I see blue tooth ear pieces, camera's that are actually more than a millimeter in width, pre-android phones, and I am just amazed.
Looking at some of the people in these albums I see how much things have changed. Furthermore, I see how the relationships I had with them have either grown or dissolved. It is funny and it is sad at the same time. The scary thing is, these are not pictures from ten or twelve years ago, these pictures are literally from my freshman and sophomore year of college...and I just graduated in May...you do the math. I know that in another four years (when I am hopefully working for someones fancy magazine or for a fancy publishing company), that some of the things and even some of the people I value at this moment will become obsolete. Interesting.
Now, I could end this post with some big cliche' that we all should "enjoy life" and "stop to smell the roses", but I am not because I am not gonna give you readers advice that I am not sure I will even take myself. However, what I am saying is that life moves pretty quickly, so think about where you were four years ago, where you are now and where you think you will be in the not so distant future. Who knows, maybe you'll laugh a little more at the things that stress you out today, maybe you wont. Either way, it is still fun to look back every once in a while as long as it doesn't keep you from moving forward.
That is all world. Smile and be happy (at least try to anyway).

#Things Black Girls Do...Hmmmm?
Hello World,
Most of you, if you are reading my blog, probably know what Twitter is and what purpose it serves, even if you do not "tweet" yourself. For those of you who may not know the inner and outer workings of Twitter I will briefly enlighten you on what is called the "Trending Topic". In Twitterland, the Trending Topic, or simply TT, is popular a word, phrase, or issue that is currently being discussed. The word, usually followed by a pound (#) sign, can be trending for several hours or even days. Some of them (most of them) are funny and light hearted, some of them can get pretty serious, and some of them are just completely random. This, World, is the idea of the TT.
With that being said, the current TT on Twitter as I write this post is #Thingsblackgirlsdo. I am not usually one to fuss over stereotypes and such, however, some things really do get to me and, as a black female I feel I must say something about some of the tweets that flew across my screen. For example, one individual's TT said: "Dropin that a** down low in the club #thingsblackgirlsdo", another tweet "#thingsblackgirlsdo Spend $300 on Weave"...and there are many many more. As I said...not usually one who is big on discussing stereotypical issues but really are you serious that these are some of the things that cross individuals minds when thinking about black females. Come on people. Most of these negative tweets that I saw were either posted by black men or even re-tweeted by fellow black females. Ladies, being known for: talking to much, talking too loud, or how much drama you cause, is nothing to be proud of. We've had too many strong black females work too hard to change stereotypical images like this. #Imjustsayin.
Now on one hand, it really is just Twitter and most of these tweets are probably being tweeted by high school or middle school kids who have nothing better to do with their time, and for the most part I am sure it really is out of fun. Furthermore, I am sure there is also a TT titled #thingswhitegirlsdo which is probably just as stereotypical, but look at this way... which one is more popular.Yet, this is just one girls opinion :-)
Either way, whether you agree or not, smile and tweet away world.

What's the point of all this election stuff anyway???
Hello world,
Its been a while, but I am back. Today is election day and if you are at all like me, you haven't been paying attention to what has really been going on during this midterm election. I remember being hardcore during the 2008 election because I mean that's the presidential election, that's the "big one", right? Nevertheless, the midterm elections are important too (if you care at all about who your Governor and future Senators are!!) So if you have no idea what you are voting for or want to know why today's election day IS a big deal. Here are four websites that I found most helpful for last minute voting decisions. Enjoy and smile all the way to the polls!
http://qs1195.pair.com/rockvote/2010-voter-guides/fl-voter-guide.pdf : A complete Florida Voters guide. Very short but very helpful information guide on this midterm election.
http://fl.electionland.com/ : A website sponsored by Rock the Vote. It answers common FAQ's about FL elections, this is also where I found the Florida Voters guide.
http://www.cfnews13.com/politics/florida-decides: Specific for those of us in the Central Florida region.
** http://election.dos.state.fl.us/: If you have the time this is the best place to go for extensive information for the 2010 Florida election.
As always, check your local news stations and local news sources for the most up to date and detailed campaign information.

For The Free! ! ! !
Hello World,
Who likes getting free stuff!?! Having just graduated college and now trying to budget my life I understand the importance of the word FREE! Getting things for free is especially important during those expensive college years. We need to pinch and save wherever possible and one of the most expensive, yet necessary, aspects of college life ,other than rent, are text books! In some cases students have to go weeks without books because they are waiting on financial aid to come through in order to pay for them. Well, no worries, I have the answer for you! Today I stumbled upon a website that uploads text books online for free. The website called Open Culture has hundreds of textbooks over the net ranging from basic Chemistry books to Finance books, they even have Engineering books available. Now I know there may be plenty of other websites that offer free books and the downside to the free text books is that some of them are school specific and may not work for you. However, the cool thing about Open Culture is that it is more than a website where you can get free books, it is literally a website where you can get free knowledge.
The internet has a vast amount of information, however, you can spend up spending hours just searching for one piece of information. Open Culture actually condenses that information and puts it in one place. Want to learn how to speak Spanish? The website has free language courses! Bored and want to listen to a good book but not sure where to go? This website has those too! If you have the time and want to learn something new, check out this Open Culture. I may be late with this information because the website was founded in 2006, nevertheless I thought I would share anyway! Enjoy World

Advice from Mrs. Complain A. Lot ...
Hello World,
Last week was CRAZY as I worked over 65 hours at my job taking phone calls from people from all over the country who were mad about their internet service being out. Fun, fun, fun. While being at my job for what seemed like an endless amount of hours I learned a small lesson that I would like to share with you all as well. Once again this is one of those life lessons that I am sure you all know, however, I am going to share anyway.
As you can probably guess, working in a call center is not the happiest place on earth, and at times it can be very daunting. The job has taught me a lot about Americans and a lot about myself. In the few months that I have been at this job one of the things that I have learned is that people complain a lot. I mean, sure, you have services that you are paying for and if they are not working it is going to be very frustrating (something I actually say to my customers) but honestly, is calling and cursing out me and the company I work for really going to get you anywhere...not at all. I almost want to tell some of these people just to suck it up and deal with it because yelling is not going to get them anywhere. All it does is upset them further and frustrate me in the process. As I said, it is one thing to be upset about services that are not working, but it is another thing just to complain for the heck of it. Some people honestly are like that, and, while working on this job I somehow let the negative energy get to me and found myself in a world wind of my own life complaints.
Working at a job that you hate is not the ideal situation, working 25 extra hours at this job that you hate is just asking for a bad week. In my case I found myself towards the middle of the week waking up one morning and wanting to quit right then and there. The first thoughts out of my head once the alarm went off were, "gosh I hate my job, I hate waking up early and I hate the people there...bla bla bla, whine whine whine." Where did this get me? Absolutely nowhere, it just assured that I would have a bad day due to my bad attitude.
Nevertheless, a conversation I had with my Grammy later that day reminded me that if I change my attitude, it may not necessarily change the situation but it sure will make it more bearable. She said that instead of me waking up and complain about the job I hate, I should be thankful for having a job to pay the rent and bills to live in this cute little apartment that I love so much. She was right. Sometimes it is not easy, sometimes things can really honestly seem bad, and sometimes the bad situation may not even be our fault but there is always one aspect you can control in a bad situation and that is your own attitude towards it. My job has not gotten better but I've learned that a positive attitude has made it all the more easy for me to get through the day. But thats just me....
Once again, just more random thoughts from my little head. Have a great week World and as always,
Live life and smile always (or at least make an attempt to) ;-)!

More, More, More, and More
Hello World,
In my 22 years of living I have learned a lot and, while I know I have a lot more to learn, one thing I am now sure of is that Americans, or maybe just humans in general, are just...well, GREEDY. Greed seems to fuel a lot of things in life and no matter how much we have, we always seem to want more. More money, more attention, more sex and the list goes on. How much is too much and at what point will we stop wanting more and just be happy with what we have.
Now as you read this you may be asking yourself what brought on this revelation...its simple...a guy (what else). Long story short, a friend of mine met a guy who tried to "get at her" and through a little Facebook induced research she later discovered that he had a girlfriend. I discussed the situation with said friend and we both asked ourselves what causes men, or women, who are in seemingly happy relationships (happy enough to have the fancy lovey dovey profile pictures and or Facebook status up) to go elsewhere for sex and or attention? The answer is simple, it all comes back to that one little word --> GREED <--. What other reason would a husband have to stay married to his wife yet continue to peruse extramarital affairs, or a girlfriend decide that she just needs a little bit more attention than she is getting from her man. Sure, there are plenty of reasons why individuals are unfaithful to their partners, yet, I feel that all of those other reasons end up sounding more and more like excuses when the real reason should be, "I just wanted more." Simple as that.
Of course, Greed goes beyond the relationship factor, and if one is not careful too much of it can cause unnecessary pain in ones life. Just ask the CEO who changed things around in his or her business records just to get a little bit more cash, or the man who hit the casinos more than he should have, or even the individual who had to go back for that third (and fourth and fifth) plate of food. Don't get me wrong, wanting more is not a bad thing, it can sometimes fuel us in life and get us to where we want to be. However, there is a difference between wanting a little bit extra and needing more than what you already have. But you guys already knew that right ;-)!
Until next time, live life and smile always.
